SIGNIFICANCE OF LORD YAMA

SIGNIFICANCE OF LORD YAMA

INTRODUCTION

Whenever the word “YAMA” comes from our mouth, immediately our mind would be filled up with full of fear and most of us are trying to avoid                  in reciting his name. Lord Yama is one of the best Vedic gods, and he has even got the right to receive the oblation from the fire sacrifices. He is the Lord of Dharma and Justice similar to his brother Lord “SANEESWARA”, and apart from these duties, his main duty is to take away the lives of the dead ones in the earth. Lord Yama is an ancient god, and he is living in his Yama Loka for several millions of years by worshipping Lord Shiva. He is also a noble god, and he never punishes the souls of the pious ones.

As per ancient legend, when Lord Yama tried to take away the soul of Satyavan, his consort Ma Savitri who was a chaste woman, intervened him, and prayed to him to give a long life to her deceased husband. After her repeated requests, Lord Yama felt pity on her, and restored the life of her consort Satyavan and also gave few more boons to Ma Savitri.

If we go through the above incident, we could know about the greatness of Yama Bhagavan. Similar to other deities, he is also a worshipful god, who is forgotten by most of us. It is our duty to worship him at least once in a day, by reciting the contents of the following stotra, in order to avoid death related fear from our mind.

The contents from the Yama Stotra are as follows:

Lord Dharma is the noble son of Lord Surya Bhagavan, and his sister is Ma Yamuna and he is the strict follower of dharma, and hence he is known as Yama Dharma.

According to him, all the living being are equal and he acts as a witness for everything which happens in this world,
And thus I salute Lord Yama.

He is the god of death,
and no one can escape from his clutches, and when the time comes, he would take our souls along with him to his kingdom, without waiting even for a second, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

He used to give punishment with his divine weapon, in order to make the sinners to change themselves into pure and pious,
and he is the holy Guru for everyone in this world, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

He would never find any partiality between the souls
and he is the one, who gives punishment to the sinners based on their karmic deeds, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

He behaves like a holy saint, and he is a devotee of Lord Vishnu and Shiva, and he is the one, who has controlled his senses,
And he is very good, for the noble people, and appears wicked for the bad ones, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

He is the one who knows all, and he is a friend of the saintly people,
And he would give troubles to the sinners, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

He contains the features of Lord Brahma and he highly respects Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. He is the one, who used to praise Lord Vishnu, by chanting his names, and thus he had got supreme powers as blessings from him, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

Lord Yama would never touch the divine people like Narada, Tumburu, Prahalada and Dhruva, since they form part and parcel of Lord Vishnu, and thus I salute Lord Yama.

Hence let us recite the above stotra, and let us whole heartedly worship Lord Yama to get a good health and longevity in our life.
