BUFFALO IN HINDUISM
INTRODUCTION
Buffalo is the divine vehicle of Lord Yama, the death god, who takes the lives of all the living beings in the earth after their death. Buffalos are worshipful animals, and cannot be killed for meat, since it would give lot of troubles to the killer as well as the eater of the meat during their life and also after their death, since Buffaloes contains the features of the death god Yama. Those who eat the meat of Buffalo would be severely punished by Lord Yama after their death, and they would have to live in the hell for many years.
Buffalo is giving good milk, and acts as a guardian for us. Those who provide proper food items to the buffalo would live peacefully in the earth, and they would not get any death fear in their minds, and their life would end without any difficulty. Buffalo is mentioned in ancient Vedas and Puranas, and the Divine Buffalo of Yama was created by Lord Brahma from the powers of Lord Shiva. Hence buffaloes are also considered as an aspect of Lord Shiva.
Let us worship the great Yama Dev and Lord Shiva and be blessed.
