SANT GHASIDAS
INTRODUCTION
Ghasidas (1756–1850) who was also known as the Holy Guru Ghasidas, was the Guru of the Satnampanth sect. Guru Ghasidas treated everyone as the same, and moved with the people and his followers in a kind manner, and he lived in a dense forest in Chhattisgarh. Though he doesn’t believe in idol worship, but he is a sincere devotee of Lord Rama, similar to Sant Kabir Das.
Ghasidas was born in the year 1756 in Balodabazar in Chhattishgarh. Guru Ghasidas was considered as the divine saviour of the people of Chhattisgarh. After his death, his teachings were done by his son, Guru Balakdas. Ghasidas was against caste discrimination, and fought for the rights of the lower class people, and rejected social inequality. He travelled throughout Chhattisgarh in order to remove the evils of caste inequalities, and also preached the importance of Satnam sect amongst the people.
Saint Guru Ghasidas established Satnami community in Chhattisgarh based on truth and equality. His teachings are similar to Sikhism, and he was the admirer of Sant Guru Nanak. Guru Ghasidas showered his true love and affection to all the people, and he was considered as a holy saint.
The Government of Chhattisgarh had given a new name for the Tiger Reserve as Guru Ghasidas National Park, and a university was opened in his name, which is called as “Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya.”
TEACHINGS
- There is only one Godwho is the Supreme Truth and ultimate reality.
- Respect all the women, and let them enjoy the rights similar to the men.
- Always speak truth, and move gently with others.
- Recite the names of the god regularly throughout your life time, and doing that would heal your diseases and all sort of problems in your life, and you would get the divine bliss.
- Do charity to the poor and the needy.
- Even make your enemies into your friends by showering your kindness on them.
- Don’t turn back. Go ahead, and keep doing your work properly and precisely.
- Eat your daily bread by doing hard work.
- Wealth is the root cause of all the evils.
- Develop the good habit of forgiving others.
