In the Hindu epic- Ramayana, Ravana is the demon king who kidnapped Sita Mata. Lord Rama fought a war with Ravana and killed him and freed the city of Lanka from his atrocities. However, the people of Ravanagram village in Vidisha do not consider Ravana as all evil. In fact they are known to worship Ravana and have erected a 10 foot tall idol in Ravana’s reclining position. The idol is worshipped by several devotees in and around Vidisha. It is interesting to note that Ravana is worshipped at several places in North India for his intellect and devotion to Lord Shiva.
